Level 3 NVQ Apprenticeship


The Engineering Manufacture Framework at level 3 is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and competence requirements to operate at craft or technician level as appropriate within the following engineering sub-sectors: Automotive, Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Metal goods and other transport equipment.

What will you do?
You will be employed with a local employer and do work-based training at their place of business. You are paid a wage. Your apprenticeship will involve working towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Functional Skills and a technical certificate as described below:

What are the entry requirements?
Usually 3 GCSE’s at grade C or 4 or above in English, IT and Maths. ( or ability to achieve this while on the apprenticeship)
However, candidates should be able to demonstrate the potential to achieve NVQ Level 3, Functional Skills at level 2 and a technical certificate.

What job will you do?
You are likely to be employed as one of the following:
Electrical Maintenance Craftsperson
Mechanical Maintenance Craftsperson
Engineering Assembly
CNC Machinist

How long does your Apprenticeship take to complete?
An apprenticeship ends when all necessary components have been completed. This usually takes between 3 and 4 years.

What opportunities are available afterwards?
You could move on to higher level qualifications and to eventual recognition as Chartered Engineers.

Qualifications required as part of the Apprenticeship Framework
National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
You will need to achieve an NVQ level 3 Extended Diploma in one of the Engineering disciplines.
Mechanical Manufacturing
Fabrication & Welding
Engineering Production
Engineering Manufacture
Engineering Maintenance
Engineering Installation & Commissioning
Electrical & Electronics Servicing

Technical Certificate
You will need to achieve an additional qualification at level 3, for example,
BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (Edexcel)
Certificate in Engineering 2850 Level 3 (C&G)
These are achieved by attending college usually on a day release basis.

Functional Skills
If you have not achieved the required level of English Math’s and ICT previously you will be required to achieve Functional Skills at level 2 in these subjects.
